PG&E Opens $28.5 Million State-of-the-Art Electric Control Center in Fresno
PG&E has opened a state-of-the-art, $28.5 million electric distribution grid control center. By early next year, it will be one of three new grid control centers - the others in Concord and Rocklin - that will control PG&E's 140,000-circuit-mile electric distribution system that delivers electricity to homes and businesses.
Regional fire officials requested SDG&E to send its Erickson Air-Crane, the Sun Bird, to help fight a fast-moving brushfire near the U-S Mexico border. The Sun Bird made several water drops on the Cowboy Fire, which started Sept. 2, 2010 and burned more than 800 acres near the communities of Campo and Potrero before being contained four days later.
The CLNR project is trialing a range of innovative network technologies including electric energy storage. We have installed six energy storage batteries of varying sizes, at strategic points on the Northern Powergrid electricity distribution network, watch a time lapse video showing the work that went into installing our largest 2.5WVa/5MWH battery at Rise Carr in Darlington.
